Three scenes from the stories of famous people. Three hanging scrolls, ink and light colors on paper. On each painting a long inscription and signature by the artist: „In the autumn of the jihai year (1899) painted for Mister Weitang, Zhongyu Li Qiu“. Two seals of the artist on each painting: “Li Qiu zhi yin”, “bie zi Zhongyu”, “Li Qiu siyin” etc. Two collector's seals.
From a private collection in southern Germany, largely acquired in Hong Kong and Jakarta in the 1960s/1970s - Partly damaged due to age.
The three hanging scrolls are obviously from a set of many scrolls depicting stories about the famous people in the Chinese history such as the first Ming Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the Han dynasty doctor Fei Changfang and the Yuan dynasty poet Guan Yunshi. On the outside they are numbered 8, 10 and 13. On each scroll a long inscription tells the story depicted. The bodies of the figures are done in light color and shaded as it was common around 1900
